International Mission OSH February 2016

During the month of February Operation Smile Honduras carried out their International Mission 2016, which is considered to be the biggest annual mission. The event took place from 18th until 26th February.

Originating in 1997, OSH conducts 5 different missions a year and operates a fully equipped clinic that conducts daily surgeries on facial malformations.

During two days, OSH evaluated around 319 potential patients and conducted medical pre-surgical tests.

The children and their parents stayed at a shelter nearby the hospital. Operations started on Monday the 22nd and went on throughout the week, and 139 children were operated on cleft lip or cleft palate. The public hospital San Felipe hosted this mission like every year.

After the patients were operated, the doctors carried out a post-operational check and the patients could return to their home towns once given a clean bill of health. Some children are required to come back to the clinic in the upcoming months for check-ups, or more surgeries if needed. Accommodation and all medical costs are borne by Operation Smile Honduras.
