Freight Increase and Container Shortage - Update from India

According to Aulina Mithal Sood from FIDI Affiliate Star Worldwide Group, they are facing a severe container shortage in India and price increase on both sea freight and air freight for all parts of the world. This has been happening since middle of 2020 and the matter has only gotten worse over the months. At the moment we are seeing 100 -300% increase in sea freight to most regions and a waiting period of 2-3 weeks for a container to be available.

Mithal Sood futher stated that: "Our discussions with NVOCCs have lead us to believe that this situation will carry on well into 2022. Vessels are going full and are overbooked and needless to say that household goods may not get priority over other commercial commodities and export goods."
